A specific multi-nutrient formulation enhances M1 muscarinic acetylcholine receptor responses in vitro.

Nutrients are known to influence neuronal membrane synthesis and composition. In turn, membrane composition is thought to influence many processes that take place in and around this membrane. One such process is the activation of neurotransmitter receptors that are embedded in the membrane. We now tested whether a dietary intervention (called ‘Fortasyn Connect‘), with specific nutrients that are involved in membrane synthesis, would affect receptor functioning. It is shown that single nutrients were not very effective, but that the combined administration of the nutrients in Fortasyn Connect enhanced the activation of cholinergic receptors that are involved in cognitive functioning and Alzheimer’s disease.
